Halloween Treat was no Trick for Asbury Court Seniors
Bride's canceled wedding turns into a senior party
About a year ago the future bride and groom started planning their wedding and thought how fun it would be to have it on Halloween!!
The plans were set and all of the traditional arrangements were made. The rental of the reception hall, catering, flowers, D.J. and all the trimmings for 150 guests.
The wedding invitations went out, the masquerade masks were ordered for all the guests, …..it was to be a grand time.!!
Seven days before the wedding the groom got cold feet. The wedding has been called off. Everything has already been paid for in advance and after numerous phone calls, the bride – not – to be and her family realized that any type of refund from any of the contracted companies, this close to the event, was not going to be an option………………….What to do, What to do.??
The family and their daughter called Asbury Court which is located not far from the reception hall, and asked the director if he would entertain a Masquerade Party to be held for our seniors? After an explanation of the situation the director agreed. After more phone calls on the part of the family to all of the vendors the location of the event was changed and the deliveries started coming in. The decorations, beautiful flowers, big brandy snifters filled with candy, and beautiful centerpieces filled with plumes of fall colored feathers.
The D.J. played oldies, the tables looked beautiful and the guest dressed in costume. The banquet hall served a senior friendly meal, and the bride looked on, watching the seniors have a great time. She was filled with joy but also sadness, being at the party that she would have been having if it had been her wedding.
Her generosity in her time of sadness will always be remembered…………………………
